Ohio State Ends No. 22 Indiana's 14-game Winning Streak

January 12, 2014

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The No. 22 Indiana women's basketball team's 14-0 start, the longest win streak in program history, came to an end Saturday as the Ohio State Buckeyes defeated the Hoosiers 70-51 at Assembly Hall, dealing IU its first loss of the 2013-14 season.

Ohio State's Martina Ellerbe scored the opening basket of the game, and despite tying the score three times in the opening minutes, the Buckeyes never relinquished the lead the rest of the way.

After working their way into the paint to start the game, the Hoosiers went over four minutes without scoring a point, giving OSU a chance to put together an 8-0 run to take a 20-10 lead with 9:16 on the clock. Two back-to-back 3-pointers by freshmen Taylor Agler halted that run before it got much deeper, bringing the Hoosiers back to within seven, 20-13. Agler finished the game with nine points, three rebounds, and an assist.

The Buckeyes had the hot hand the entire first half, shooting 62.1% (18-of-29) from the field, and burying Indiana under a 38-23 point lead at the 2:11 mark.

With under a minute remaining in the half, freshmen Jenn Anderson came off the bench and put up four quick points, sending IU to the locker room down 39-29.

Missed shots for both teams stalled scoring for several minutes during the start of the second half before senior Simone Deloach drove to the basket for an easy layup with 14:54 to play and brought the Hoosiers to within single digits, 44-35, for the first time since 5:17 mark of the first half.

Ohio State once again was able to build on its lead before Indiana went on an 11-0 run sparked by freshmen Karlee McBride and Larryn Brooks. The duo was able to bring the Hoosiers to within eight, 56-48 with 8:23 to play. Brooks finished with 11 points and seven assists while McBride was able to add nine points off the bench.

Ohio State quickly answered with a 10-0 run of its own and never looked back, defeating the Hoosiers 70-51.

IU struggled all afternoon on the offensive end, shooting a season-low 28.8 percent from the field while OSU shot 53.4 percent overall. The Buckeyes were tough down low outscoring Indiana 38-14 in the paint as Ameryst Alston led Ohio State with 29 points.

Indiana will look to rebound on the road at Wisconsin where they will face the Badgers at 8 p.m. ET on Wednesday night.
