Boilermakers Ready For In-State Showdown at Crossroads Classic

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Purdue will face its first in-state foe of the season on Saturday as it travels to Indiananapolis and Bankers Life Fieldhouse for a 6 p.m. (ET) tipoff against Butler in game two of the Crossroads Classic. This will be the third year of the event, which features the four premier basketball programs in the state (Purdue, Butler, Indiana and Notre Dame).

• Coming off a hard-fought 69-64 victory over a feisty Eastern Michigan squad on Saturday and then finals week, the Boilermakers return to the court on Saturday, Dec. 14, for the third-annual Crossroads Classic at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. Purdue will face Butler in the second game of the in-state doubleheader, tipping off at 6 pm (ET) on the Big Ten Network with Dave Revsine and Jim Jackson calling the action. Fans can also listen to the game on the Purdue Sports Network and SIRIUS (Ch. 85) and XM (Ch. 85) Satellite Radio as Larry Clisby and Rob Blackman with the radio call courtside. • Purdue enters the Crossroads Classic having won three games in a row, a blowout victory in the ACC / Big Ten Challenge against Boston College sandwiched between five-point wins over Siena (Dec. 1) and Eastern Michigan (Dec. 7). The Boilermakers' lone losses have come to then-No. 5 ranked Oklahoma State (97-87) and Washington State (69-54) on back-to-back days in the Old Spice Classic in Orlando, Fla.

• In Purdue's last outing, the Boilermakers led essentially the entire game of their 69-64 win over Eastern Michigan, but needed to make 12-of-17 free throws in the final five minutes to hold off every Eagles' charge. Purdue took control in the first half with a 13-3 run and would lead by as many as 11 (44-33) in the second half before Eastern Michigan rallied.

• As a team, the Boilermakers are averaging 79.7 points per game and connecting on 45.6 percent of their field goal attempts so far. Defensively, Purdue is giving up 71.4 points per game and foes are shooting 40.8 percent against the Boilermaker defense. Purdue is winning the battle of the boards by just 1.0 rebounds per game, but has forced 29 more turnovers and scored 42 more points off turnovers than its opponent.

• Senior Terone Johnson leads a balanced offensive attack with a team-bsest 12.8 scoring average, while sophomore and little brother, Ronnie Johnson, averages 11.9 points and a team-best 4.0 assists per game. Freshman Bryson Scott is third on the team in scoring at 10.4 points per game. Sophomore A.J. Hammonsis yanking down a team-best 6.7 rebounds per game and ranks fifth nationally in blocked shots, averaging 4.0 per game.

• Butler enters Saturday's game with a 7-2 overall record and is coming off a 100-41 win over Manchester College on Monday. The Bulldogs havfe won two in a row after dropping two in a row at the Old Spice Classic to Oklahoma State (69-67) and LSU (70-68 in OT).

• The Bulldogs average 77.0 points per contest and are shooting 46.2 percent from the field and 37.0 percent from long distance. Defensively, Butler is allowing just 63.7 points per contest and foes are shooting 42.9 percent from the field and just 29.6 from beyond the arc. Butler is winning the battle of the boards by almost five per game and is averaging just 9.3 turnovers per game.

• Sophomore guard Kellen Dunham is averaging 18.7 points per game, while Khyle Marshall follows at 17.0 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. Kameron Woods is also averaging in double figures at 10.3 points per game and leads the squad in rebounding at 8.9 per game. Alex Barlow is Butler's top distributor at 3.3 dimes per contest. Butler has started the same lineup in each of its nine games this year.
