FB STATE FINALS: The games inside the games (aka X's and O's, y'all!)

December 1, 2011
By E. Shawn Aylsworth of Hoosier Authority

The Indiana high school football state finals are, arguably, the most exciting thing goin’ on these days in Hoosier youth athletics (though 19 other IHSAA-sanctioned sports could well make the same claim). Suffice to say that the five contests held Nov. 25-26 did not play out the way most gridiron fans wanted them to with all five clashes virtually decided by halftime.

Despite the lopsidedness of said title tilts, however, there were still lots of things that stirred up interest over the two days after Thanksgiving 2011. Not the least among them – to your unknowing delight – was the intrepid observations of one young Alex Kirby, an Indiana State University student and budding football coach who knows a LOT of stuff about how offenses and defenses work.

To that end, we bring you the “X’s and O’s” from all five state finals contests! Alex’s creative mind and skillful writing style make it easy to follow precisely HOW some of the weekend’s big plays occurred, and we’ve figured out the best way to post them for your perusal.

So, seek out the section on the Hoosier Authority home page called Recent Documents and click on any or all of the five links therein to learn exactly how Lafayette Central Catholic, Fort Wayne Luers, Indianapolis Chatard, Indianapolis Cathedral, and Carmel all found their way to the promised land at Lucas Oil Stadium.

Only from Hoosier Authority – YOUR Indiana high school sports year-round Christmas gift!
