GSw RANKINGS: Penn tied with Carmel at No. 1 in second poll

The Indiana High School Swim Coaches’ Association has released its second poll for the 2012-13 girls swimming season, and preseason leader Carmel has a buddy at the top of the heap as Penn has climbed into a first-place tie with the 26-time defending state champion Greyhounds.

Penn – a third-place finisher at last year’s state finals – rises from sixth in the preseason poll to tie Carmel with 186 votes, well ahead of third-place Crown Point (172 votes and up all the way from 10th), No. 4 defending state runner-up Zionsville (166 and down from third), and still-No. 5 Mount Vernon (Posey) (146).

Rounding out the second Top 10 of the season are Hamilton Southeastern (up from 17th), Chesterton (fourth), and the three-headed monster tied for ninth that is Fishers (13th)/Fort Wayne Snider (22nd)/Noblesville (12th).

The rankings are made up by scoring a theoretical 16-place meet using the times/scores of the returning Top 18 individual event times from last year’s sectionals and state finals as well as the fastest reported times of this season.
