COMMENTS: Seems like forever since the Brickies (four 4A state titles in seven seasons under former coach Don Howell from 1987-93) had a big win, doesn’t it? Anthony Burgos collects three turnovers for Hobart, which rallied from a 21-17 halftime deficit. Click here for the game story, courtesy of nwitimes.com!

COMMENTS: Holy thriller, Batman! Michael Farkas’ second field goal of the night at :47.7 caps a rally from a 26-15 halftime deficit for the Knights – ironic in that Francisco Ramierez’ calf injury precluded the Panthers from four extra-point possibilities. LAST MEETING: Brebeuf Jesuit, 21-17, Sep. 16, 2011.
FINAL SCORE: Brebeuf, 25-15
COMMENTS: That final score sounds more like one of the Braves’ volleyball matches as RB LeVante Bellamy (125 yards) and Sterling Mitchell (123) have nearly identical rushing nights.
Eastern Hancock (2-2) at Knightstown (3-1)

LAST MEETING: Indianapolis Chatard, 42-27, Sep. 16, 2011.
FINAL SCORE: Ritter, 56-33
COMMENTS: No, that final is not a typo – it was 35-26 at HALFTIME. Think that three-time defending 2A state champ Fort Wayne Luers might notice this score, hmmm? QB Jake Purichia passes for 311 yards and three TDs and runs for 126 yards and four more, with WR Alex Parrett snagging a dozen receptions for 178 for the Raaaaaai-duhhhhhhhz. The last time the Trojans, who got 220 yards rushing and three TDs from Pete Hartley, lost by this much to anyone that was not a parochial powerhouse named Indianapolis Cathedral, Cincinnati Elder, or Cincinnati St. Xavier was in … 1999 – to fellow Indy parochial power Roncalli (31-3).
1A #1 Indianapolis Scecina (4-0) at 4A #5 Roncalli (3-1)

SERIES LAST 15 YEARS: Indianapolis Roncalli, 14-0.
LAST MEETING: Indianapolis Roncalli, 40-13, Sep. 16, 2011.
FINAL SCORE: Roncalli, 28-7
COMMENTS: About what we expected considering the gap in enrollment between the victorious Rebels (1,090) and the relatively tiny 1A defending state runner-up Crusaders (332) in Roncalli’s 17th consecutive series win.
Mt. Vernon (Fortville) (3-1) at 4A #13 Pendleton Heights (3-1)
GAME TIME: 7:30 pm ET, Arabian Field (WEEM, 91.7 FM).

SERIES LAST 15 YEARS: Pendleton Heights, 9-8.
LAST MEETING: Pendleton Heights, 31-7, sectional, Oct. 21, 2011.
FINAL SCORE: Mt. Vernon, 58-26
COMMENTS: Spuhhh-LATTTTT! Anthony Burnett rushes for 201 yards and four TDs, while Kameron Risper tacks on another 193 and a score as the Fortville-ians attempt nary a pass. Think the Marauders might have been seething since that 24-point spanking in the sectional opening last year? Click here for the archived LIVE audio stream, courtesy of Hancock County Sports!
4A #15 Plainfield (3-1) at 4A #8 Greenwood (4-0)
GAME TIME: 7:00 pm ET, Woodman Field.
COACHES: Brian Woodard, 48-24 in 7th year at Plainfield. Mike Campbell, 29-41 in 7th year at Greenwood.
SAGARIN RATINGS: Greenwood, 78.42, 33rd overall, 7th in Class 4A. Plainfield, 74.59, 42nd overall, 10th in Class 4A.

SERIES LAST 15 YEARS: Plainfield, 12-5.
LAST MEETING: Greenwood, 34-21, Sep. 16, 2011.
FINAL SCORE: Greenwood, 31-3
COMMENTS: Two first-half fumbles figured heavily in this one on a night where the Quakers just couldn’t seem to get anything to go their way. Click here for the game story, courtesy of Managing Editor E. Shawn Aylsworth!
South Putnam (3-1) at 3A #15 Greencastle (4-0)
GAME TIME: 7:00 pm ET, Robert Harbison Field.
COACHES: Troy Burgess, 35-32 in 7th year at South Putnam, 80-70 in 15th year overall. Josh Buis, 11-3 in 2nd year at Greencastle.
SAGARIN RATINGS: South Putnam, 63.1, 90th overall, 11th in Class 2A. Greencastle, 57.2, 112th overall, 18th in Class 3A.
LAST OUTING: South Putnam defeated North Putnam, 34-20, Sep. 8. Greencastle defeated Indianapolis Arlington, 25-0, Sep. 7.
OPPONENTS' RECORDS: South Putnam 9-7, Greencastle 4-11.
SERIES LAST 15 YEARS: South Putnam, 9-6.
LAST MEETING: South Putnam, 28-24, Sep. 17, 2011.
FINAL SCORE: Greencastle, 20-0
COMMENTS: That’s four shutouts in five games (and only seven points in the other) for the Tiger Cubs, who last started 5-0 in 1995 before losing 36 straight from 1997 to 2001.
Terre Haute North (2-2) at 5A #2 Ben Davis (4-0)
GAME TIME: 7:00 pm ET, Giants Stadium (WBDG, 90.9 FM).
COACHES: Chris Barrett, 40-72 in 11th year at Terre Haute North, 68-104 in 18th year overall. Mike Kirschner, 42-20 in 6th year at Ben Davis, 56-46 in 10th year overall.
SAGARIN RATINGS: Ben Davis, 107.51, 1st overall, 1st in Class 5A. Terre Haute North, 80.34, 27th overall, 20th in Class 5A.
LAST OUTING: Terre Haute North lost to Center Grove, 17-15, Sep. 8. Ben Davis defeated Warren Central, 6-3, Sep. 8.
OPPONENTS' RECORDS: Terre Haute North 10-6, Ben Davis 6-10.
SERIES LAST 15 YEARS: Ben Davis, 13-1.
LAST MEETING: Ben Davis, 46-7, Sep. 16, 2011.
FINAL SCORE: BD, 30-7
COMMENTS: Giants avoid a post-Warren Central letdown against a Patriots squad that nearly upset Center Grove last weekend. QB Kyle Castner tosses two TDs (and three INTs) and Sterling Steadham nails three field goals, while the Giants’ defense picks TNH QB Chris Barrett three times in a routine MIC thumping. 2A #8 Tipton (4-0) at 3A #9 West Lafayette (3-1)
GAME TIME: 7:30 pm ET, Gordon Straley Field.
COACHES: Aaron Tolle, 55-29 in 8th year at Tipton. Marshall Overley, 78-52 in 12th year at West Lafayette.
SAGARIN RATINGS: Tipton, 75.98, 38th overall, 5th in Class 2A. West Lafayette, 63.86, 86th overall, 14th in Class 3A.
LAST OUTING: Tipton defeated Rensselaer Central, 40-18, Sep. 8. West Lafayette defeated Benton Central, 28-21, Sep. 8.

SERIES LAST 15 YEARS: Tied, 6-6.
LAST MEETING: West Lafayette, 17-7, Sep. 16, 2011.
FINAL SCORE: Tipton, 20-14
COMMENTS: Devils (Red) fall to 3-2 for the first time since 2006 – which, incidentally, was the last time that Devils (Blue) conquered them – as Tipton snaps a six-game series losing streak AND ruins Homecoming with a dominant offensive performance in outgaining the hosts 339-163.

SERIES LAST 15 YEARS: Castle, 12-4.
LAST MEETING: Castle, 41-14, Sep. 9, 2011.
FINAL SCORE: Castle, 62-21
COMMENTS: Yipes! That’s 14 straight regular-season wins for coach Doug Hurt’s Knights, who have taken over as big dog in the Southern Indiana Athletic Conference. WR Jon-Marc Anderson catches nine passes for 187 yards and three TDs IN THE FIRST HALF for Castle, whose QB Mitch Gilles suffers through a dreadful 24-for-34 night for 410 yards and a school-record six TDs. SERIES LAST 15 YEARS: Paoli, 8-7.
LAST MEETING: Paoli, 50-13, Sep. 16, 2011.
FINAL SCORE: Paoli, 26-15
COMMENTS: While still a loss, the Senators are creeping closer after their most recent 50-13, 27-0, and 66-0 debacles against the Rams.
