COMMENTS: Looks can indeed be deceiving as the Kings were forced to rally from deficits of 7-0 and 14-6. They did so behind the extremely efficient passing of QB Sheldon Slusser (5 of 6 for 144 yards and two TDs, both to Justen Downhour on tosses of 48 and 72 yards), the extremely efficient running of Drew Shepherd (seven carries for 100 yards and a TD, plus two INTs on defense), and a bend-but-don’t-break defense that forced Purple Tiger QB Trevor Richmond (14 of 24 for 242 yards and one TD) into four INTs and a fumble. COMMENTS: After monumentally large tight battles in a 24-21 Week 1 loss to 5A power Ben Davis and a 14-7 Week 2 win at 5A power Warren Central, Cathedral lets an understandably bad week of practice affect the first half of this one against one of Ohio’s best as St. X rolls out to a 20-0 lead and holds on.

COMMENTS: Just another day at the office for Heritage QB Matt Hunt (14 of 19 for 241 yards and three TDs passing, 21 carries for 93 yards and another TD rushing) as the Eagles roar out to a 29-12 halftime advantage and coast.

FINAL SCORE: Brownsburg, 42-14
COMMENTS: HSE’s share of six straight Hoosier Crossroads Conference crowns looks like a distant memory after a 1-2 start and this utterly forgettable performance on the road. A first half in which the Royals trailed “only” 21-0 included the following: two INTs for QB Ross Risley (on a 4-of-16-for-27 yards night), a botched punt snap, a botched onside kick, and a botched fake punt.

Indianapolis Broad Ripple (1-1) at Brebeuf Jesuit (1-1)

COACHES: Anthony Law, 6-6 in 2nd year at Indianapolis Broad Ripple, 35-35 in 7th year overall. Ryan Gallogly, 40-18 in 6th year at Brebeuf Jesuit, 70-34 in 10th year overall.

SERIES LAST 15 YEARS: Indianapolis Chatard, 9-8.
LAST MEETING: Indianapolis Chatard, 35-3, Sep. 2, 2011.
FINAL SCORE: Chatard, 28-25 (2OT)
COMMENTS: Not much to see in this annual Indy private Catholic school war, folks – just the visiting Trojans going for the win in the second overtime on 4th & goal from the 2 and getting it on a TD run from workhorse RB Pete Hartley (34 carries for 177 yards with two TDs). “There should have been no losers in this game – there was nothing but heart and effort,” Chatard coach Vince Lorenzano told indystar.com. “These kids are all brothers in a lot of different ways. It was just a great effort by both teams.”

LAST MEETING: Tri-West, 37-13, Sep. 2, 2011.
FINAL SCORE: Tri-West, 40-16
COMMENTS: A 34-3 halftime lead puts the outcome to rest early here as QB Jake Hendershot maximizes a 5-for-13 passing night for 151 yards and three TDs and scores twice more on one-yard runs in a Sagamore Conference battle.

Martinsville (2-0) at 4A #11 Greenwood (2-0)
GAME TIME: 7:00 pm ET, Woodman Field (WCBK, 102.3 FM).

SERIES LAST 15 YEARS: Tied, 3-3.
LAST MEETING: Greenwood, 27-20, Sep. 2, 2011.
FINAL SCORE: Greenwood, 41-40
COMMENTS: The Woodmen laugh last as they deny a two-point conversion attempt by Martinsville to win. Ben Heller passes for 157 yards and rushes 10 times for 120 yards and two TDs, while Kole Stogner carries 26 times for 155 yards and the game-winning TD on an eight-yard run. Mason Kutruff (20 of 31 for 293 yards and four TDs) hooks up with Spencer Clephane (six catches, 150 yards) for a trio of fourth-period TDs as the Artesians fall just shy in a Mid-State Conference slugfest.
