GT STATE FINALS: The singles & doubles lineup

Nine singles players and six doubles teams will converge June 8-9 on North Central High School in Indianapolis to determine the 31st Annual IHSAA Girls Tennis Singles and 22nd Annual IHSAA Girls Tennis Doubles state champions in girls tennis.

One singles match will be played Friday at 10 a.m. ET, with the winner advancing to the 2 p.m. quarterfinal round. Saturday morning’s semifinal round begins at 10 a.m., followed by the state championship and consolation matches at 2 p.m.

Lebanon’s Bethany Moore will make her fourth consecutive appearance in the individual singles state finals and is one victory away from tying the state record for most career wins. With a 103-5 career mark, the senior needs one more to tie Munster’s Mary Hill, who went 104-1 from 2006-09. Moore was the 2010 state runner-up as a sophomore.

Moore’s quarterfinal opponent could be the toughest she could ask for in Penn senior Alexandra Brinker. Brinker eliminated Moore in last year’s quarters, 6-4, 6-3, and went on to finish third.

Aby Madrigal, one half of last year’s state champion doubles team from Highland, has a new partner this time around in sister Vanessa, who was a singles state finalist as a freshman two seasons ago.

Jasper teammates Ashley Rogers & Elizabeth Theil, who fell to Aby Madrigal & then-partner Elizabeth Quinn in last year’s doubles championship, also return for another shot at the top spot. The two teams would not meet until the final match should they advance.

Elizabeth Maxson of Fort Wayne Dwenger, who will team with Audrey Rang, was a state finalist in the doubles tournament two years ago as a freshman.
