Base RANKINGS: Northfield takes over top spot in 2A

The Indiana High School Baseball Coaches Association has released its eighth and final set of polls for the 2012 season, and we have a new leader in Class 2A as Northfield noses ahead from second to first in supplanting now-No. 5 Wheeler.

The other leaders from last week – 4A Lake Central, 3A Jasper, and Class A Lafayette Central Catholic – stay the same. But elsewhere inside the Top 10s …

• 4A: Huntington North inches ahead from third to second, New Albany rises from fifth to third, Crown Point climbs from ninth to fourth, and Indianapolis Cathedral ascends from eighth to sixth.
• 3A: Greensburg goes from fourth into a tie for third with previous No. 3 Leo, West Lafayette leaps from eighth to fifth, Mount Vernon (Posey) goes from ninth to seventh, Mishawaka Marian moves from 10th to ninth, and Crawfordsville climbs all the way from unranked to 10th.
• 2A: South Spencer shoots up from sixth to second, Lapel inches ahead from fourth to third, North Posey noses up from ninth to seventh, Hagerstown hops up from 12th to eighth, and Seeger rises from 15th to 10th.
• 1A: Loogootee moves from fifth to third, Rising Sun rises from eighth to sixth, and Orleans goes from 13th into a tie for ninth with Caston (was 10th).
