BG SOLLMAN INV.: #5 Bedford North Lawrence topples Top 20-loaded field

Fifth-ranked Bedford North Lawrence dipped below 300 by one stroke May 12 to conquer an 18-team Sollman Invitational field at Golf Club of Indiana that featured half the state’s Top 20-ranked schools.

The Stars’ 299 was seven strokes better than No. 8 Floyd Central, with No. 17 Carmel (308) two strokes back in third and No. 18 Indianapolis Cathedral (312) fourth. No. 15 Zionsville (314) came home fifth, followed by No. 20 Noblesville (317), No. 7 Avon (320), No. 16 Westfield and Brownsburg (both 322), and Martinsville (327).

Brownsburg’s Austin Winings took medalist honors with a 67.

“We played well overall but just couldn’t get the ball to drop,” Carmel coach Chad Carr told hcsportsdaily.com. “We struggled early with putting the ball. We battled back on the back nine and played better but couldn’t make up ground on BNL.

“Andrew Havill played great golf, shooting 2-under par (70). Back to work Monday.”
