Home » Baseball NewsHolden baseball starts 2-0March 18, 2013 Holden High SchoolHolden 18 Van Horn 5, Holden 10, Warsaw 0 Holden, the pre-season #4 ranked team in Class 3 opened the 2013 season hosting Van Horn and Warsaw in doubleheader action on Sat. Mrch 16. Matt Borgen picked up the win on the mound for Holden going 2 shutout innings striking out 5. Coby Seiz, Jeff Miller and Reece Crabtree also pitched for Holden. Offensivly Holden was led by Dylan Riley with 2 hits with one being a RBI double. Coby Seiz had a double and 2 RBI and Nick Martin had a double. James Brownsberger had one hit 2 RBI and a stolen base.Austin Tevis, Justin Jaeger, Kalan Littlefield and Gabe Hubbard all had 2 RBI for the Eagles. Holden's 2nd game of the day saw returning 2nd team all state pick Dylan Riley toss a no-hitter at Warsaw in 10-0 Holden win. Riley struck out 10 warsaw hitters while walking 2 and hitting 1. The Eagles pounded out 12 hits with Justin Jaeger getting 3 hits with one being a bases loaded triple to drive in 3 runs. Austin Tevis had 2 doubles and and a sacrifice fly to give him 4 RBI's, Riley had a Rbi double and a sacrifice fly to give him 2 rbi. Coach Riley's comments: "This was a great start to our season. Friday was our first day on the field to practice so we knew we would be rusty in some parts of the game that you can't simulate in the gym. We feel excited about our performance and the fact that we had so many different guys contribute that we will have some good healthy competition for playing time which will in turn make us a stronger team." Holden plays Sherwood on Monday then travels to the Odessa Tourney and plays Wed. Thurs. and Friday at 6:45 and Sat. at 5:45.
