Home » Newspaper NewsCross Country boy's thinking state titleAugust 30, 2012 Holden High Schoolby Dusty Chamberlain Newspaper Class Cross Country has been a very successful sport here at Holden High School. Last year, the runners won the conference and district titles. They also took sixth at the state meet. This year, the expectations are even higher. With returning runners on both squads, including All-State runner Shawn Conrad on the boys side, Coach Wescott believes the can win state. “This is possibly the best cross country team I have ever coached,” Wescott said. He went on to say they have trained a lot harder than last year. “Out of the days MSHAA allowed us to practice over the summer, 90 percent of our kids were there 95 percent of the time.” The first meet is Sept. 1 at St. Mary’s, a meet they have never won before. The varsity runners for the first meet will consist of: seniors, Shawn Conrad and AJ Gearhart and juniors Brett Leonard, Tyler Flaspohler, Brandon Clark, Matt Laing and Taz Parker. Coach Wescott and several of the runners believe that this is their year to win that meet.
