Home » Wrestling NewsWrestling Sectional Results - Six Qualify for State!February 13, 2012 Holden High SchoolThe Holden Wrestlers had a great sectional tournament this past weekend. We qualified 6 to the state tournament – the most in school history – and fell a mere 5 points away from earning a sectional trophy. We finished 3rd behind Blair Oaks and Centralia. After us were Adrian, Knob Noster, Versailles, Butler, Diamond, Warsaw, Sherwood, Lone Jack, Father Tolton Catholic School, Tipton, and New Bloomfield.
The following wrestlers will be going to the MSHSAA State tournament, and will be gone Wednesday afternoon and Thursday all day.We will be competing Friday and Saturday as well.

Jake Laing has a career record of 29-17 and is a first time state qualifier. This season he took 3rd @ Grain Valley Tournament, 14th @ Harrisonville Christmas Tournament, 3rd place @ Butler Invitational,2nd @ Lathrop Tournament, 3rd @ Richmond Tournament, & 4th in Conference. He finished 2nd at the Sectional Tournament. In the first round of state he will be competing against a wrestler from Whitfield, a private school out of St. Louis.
AJ Gearhart has a career record of 88-56, Second Team All-Conference his freshman year and is a 2 time state qualifier. This season he took 3rd @ Grain Valley Tournament, 8th @ Harrisonville Christmas Tournament, 4th place @ Butler, 3rd @ Lathrop Tournament, 5th @ Richmond Tournament, & 2nd in Conference. He finished 3rd in the Sectional Tournament. And in the first round of state he will be competing against a wrestler from Brentwood, a suburb of St. Louis.
Trever Glynn has a career record of 103-72, First Team All-Conference his junior year, and is a 3 time state qualifier. This season he took 2nd @ Grain Valley Tournament, 9th @ Harrisonville Christmas Tournament, 3rd @ Lathrop Tournament, 2nd @ Richmond Tournament, & 3rd in Conference. He finished 3rd in the Sectional Tournament. And in the first round of state he will be competing against a wrester from Tarkio, a town in the northwest corner of the state.
Max Mickey has a career record of 89-36, 2 time state qualifier, 2-time Academic All Conference, Academic All State, and a Sixth Place Finisher at the State Tournament last year. This season he took 3rd @ Grain Valley Tournament, 1st @ Butler Invitational, 1st @ Lathrop Tournament, 1st @ Richmond Tournament, & 3rd in Conference. At thesectional tournament Max earned the title of sectional champion. In the first round of state he will be competing against a wrestler from Hogan Prep Academy.
Johnathon Sullins has a career record of 53-61. He is a first time state qualifier. This season he took 3rd @ Grain Valley Tournament, 4th @ Butler, 7th @ Lathrop Tournament, 1st @ Richmond Tournament, & 7thin Conference. He finished 4th in the sectional tournament and will compete against a wrestler from Penney High School in Hamilton, home of J.C. Penney.
Austin Tevis has a career record of 31-7 and is a first time state qualifier. This season he finished 2nd @ Grain Valley Tournament, 2nd@ Butler Invitational, 3rd @ Lathop Tournament, 3rd @ Richmond Tournament, & 8th in Conference. At the sectional tournament, Austin earned the title of Sectional Champion. In the first round of state he will be competing against a wrestler from Higginsville who he pinned in the second period earlier this season.
