The Hillwood Men’s Basketball team began a new season in November without some of the key seniors who departed a year ago. Coach Steven Dodd began the 2010-2011 campaign without big men Jimmie Goodloe and Max Ugboaja. However, the Toppers have successfully reloaded. Sophomore Anthony Johnson, Juniors Michael Ryan and Keonte Sterling, Senior Guard JJ Moorer along with the key reserve players have led a Hillwood team that, albeit rather small (Senior Foreward Max Everlien at 6’4” is their tallest player), has been lightning from outside and has thrived from behind the three-point arc. The Toppers have had their struggles on the road, but at home, they have been a formidable force for every team they’ve faced. The team’s leading scorers are JJ Moorer and Markees Walker, who also happen to be two of their best three-point shooters. Michael Ryan has also ahown great ability from long range, but every member of this Hillwood team brings a different asset or ability to the table, and the Toppers have depth, something that will go along way come district tournament time. The season is still young, and Hillwood has many more games to play, but they have a promising future and great talent to make a deep run in the tournament. Good luck to our Hillwood Toppers!
