Hillwood HOSA: Regional Tournament
February 16, 2011By Coby Ginsberg of Hillwood High School
This year started out great for the HOSA club here at Hillwood, beginning with excellent fundraising and support from the fellow student body. HOSA provides students, which are interested in entering the medical field, with important information needed for entering into a health career. The most important part of HOSA is not only raising money for our charities, like Autism in 2009 and Juvenile Diabetes in 2010, but also raising money to attend regional, state, and national competitions and conferences.
Unfortunately the Regional Competition was cancelled this year due to inclement weather and the members of HOSA had to qualify for State Competition by passing an exam on their competition topic. Most members advanced without being required to pass an exam. Roughly half of the HOSA members were required to pass their exam before they could move on to State Competition. All HOSA members made it to State Competition this year.
The list of members attending State competition on Feb 28, 2011- March 2, 2011 include: Zaahra Abdulameer, Ana Antunovic, Keri Armstrong, Stephanie Austin, Katherine Barnes, Marlo Buyao, Ariel Carter, Christiana Clendening, Amber Collins, Brittany Davis, Antonique Dotson, Thao Ha, Kristen Hale, Lorena Harvey, Martina Jackson, Tuyet Lam, Camille Lapp, Trinh Le, Aneesa Mansfield, Paige Martin, Robert May, Brandy McCoy, Jocelyn Miller, Kasey Mircea, Cong Nguyen, Aisha Nichols, Shivani Pandya, Danielle Peck, Robert Ramirez, Matt Rhodes, Sumit Shukla, Megan Tidwell, Kimmy Tran, and Terriqua Webster. This year Hillwood HOSA has a total of 34 members attending State Competition. Hopefully these HOSA members can find local supporters to finance their way to State Competition. Hillwood HOSA hopes that all members make it to the National Competition in Anaheim, California. If you know anyone who could help sponsor a member to attend State Competition, please speak with Matthew Rhodes, Hillwood HOSA President 2010-2011.
