ROCKTON — Alec Smith helped Hononegah close the door on Harlem in the final minute of Wednesday’s semifinal at the Class 4A Hononegah Regional.
Smith hit 5-of-6 free throws to finish with five points as the top-seeded Indians earned a 56-50 win over No. 4 Harlem and advanced to Friday’s regional final.
Hononegah will play the winner of tonight’s 7:30 game between Boylan and Auburn.
“That’s the kind of role I play on the team,” Smith, a junior said. “Coach said, “Make free throws,” and I was able to come through.”
Jake Wilson had 20 points to lead Hononegah. He scored six of those points in the fourth quarter, while Jack Granath added 17 points for the Indians (17-11), who have won three of their last four games.
