We have a lot of medium height.” The Huskies also have balanced skills and experience; five players played extensive minutes on varsity last year and a sixth, Kourtnay Borman, returns after missing her junior season. “They have blended well together and push each other every day,” Kish said. “We will need to work hard on the boards and limit second shots.” And make their own shots. Harlem can play defense well enough to win the NIC-10 in a year where the conference lacks a dominant team for the first time in ages. But they will have to shoot better than the team that averaged 44.9 points last year. And the Harlem teams that have struggled to score often in recent years. Borman, a solid 3-point shooter, should help. “The prize is putting the ball in the bucket. For as much as we played, hard, it’s disheartening,” Kish said after the Huskies lost 39-27 to a strong DeKalb team in their opener Tuesday. “But it’s just a start. We’ll keep working.
