Mt. Vernon won its second straight regional championship Saturday night at Danville, holding off a late charge by Indian Creek to beat the Braves 54-49.

Erica Moore scored 11 of her game-high 23 points in the fourth quarter to help lead the Marauders to the title. Sydney Shelton hit four 3-pointers for 20 points. Maddie Walrod also had seven big points off the bench -- including a 3-pointer in the third quarter as Indian Creek was trying to get back into the game.

The Marauders scored the game's first seven points thanks to a strong start from Shelton, who converted two midcourt steals into layups. But Indian Creek, led by senior Northern Illinois University signee Ally Lehman, rallied back to take a 14-12 lead at the end of the quarter. Lehman hit four free throws, while Brooke Mathena and Alexis McGregor knocking down 3s in the run.

MV started the second with a 9-0 run to take a seven-point lead, and with the game at 23-16, Lehman went down with an apparent knee injury. With her out, the Marauders added six more points to lead by 13 headed into the break.

With Lehman back, Indian Creek cut the Marauders lead to as much as 41-34 in the fourth quarter and had three possessions to cut the deficit even further, but Moore put back her own miss to make it 43-34, and she began to carry her team down the stretch. She scored MV's first 11 points of the fourth, allowing MV to build a 52-42 lead inside the last two minutes. IC rallied and got as close as three, but Shelton hit two free throws with five seconds left to seal the victory.

Candace Danz had 13 for IC. Lehman added 12. Mathena and McGregor added 11 each.

MV (21-4) will play Rushville next weekend in the semistate at either Richmond or Bedford North Lawrence. Indian Creek finishes the year 20-6.
