Connersville 57, New Palestine 32: New Palestine and Connersville were in a dogfight for much of the two teams' final regular-season game, but the Spartans used a 19-1 run over the final five minutes to turn a 38-31 game into a 25-point victory.

Connersville broke it open with a five-point possession. After Emma Laughlin's shot cut the Spartan lead to seven with five minutes to go, Spartan senior Tierra Huntsman drew a foul and split the two free throws. The rebound went out of bounds and was awarded to Connersville despite the protests of the NP coaches. Huntsman then hit a 3-pointer, drew a foul and completed the four-point play off the inbounds to suddenly make it a 43-31 contest. The Spartans would add to the run over the closing minutes.

Huntsman, a Gardner-Webb signee, finished the night with 21 of her 28 points in the second half. She also led Connersville with seven rebounds.

NP had two players in double-figures, as Natalie Kehrt scored 11 points and Haley Stratman 10. Stratman also had eight rebounds. Adie Lorsung had five points and seven rebounds. Emma Laughlin had four points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals. Carly Hackler had a team-high three assists.

The two teams' shooting percentages were largely even -- Connersville shot 40 percent, NP 38 -- but the Spartans had 19 more field goal attempts, shooting 20-for-50. NP was 12-for-31. The Spartans had a 27-26 edge on the glass.

NP led 11-10 after a quarter, but the Spartans used an 8-2 second quarter to take a five-point lead ito the locker room. Connersville pushed it to 36-25 after three, but the Dragons started the fourth with a 6-2 spurt before the Spartans finished the game with their big run.

NP finishes the regular season 3-17 and will open sectional play Feb. 8 at Franklin against either Franklin Central or Center Grove. Connersville finishes 13-8 and will meet Pendleton Heights on Tuesday in the Greenfield-Central sectional.
