Thursday county wrap: NP, G-C swimmers successful

Dragons sweep Scecina, Rushville: New Palestine swept a three-way meet with Scecina and Rushville Thursday at NP. The Dragon girls won with 172 points, beating out Scecina (84) and Rushville (60). In the boys meet, NP had 164 points to Scecina's 56 and Rushville's 37.

In the girls meet, NP winners were Kara Mustard in the 200 freestyle, Kayla Jameson in the 200 IM, Alex Jacobs in the 50 freestyle, Hannah Ayer in diving, Faith Stirm in the 100 freestyle, Kenzie Wells in the 500 freestyle, Grace Hornsby in the 100 backstroke, the 200 medley relay of Grace Hornsby, Natalie Berea, Kara Mustard and Jacobs, the 200 free relay of Grace Hornsby, Jacobs, Shannon Jones and Berea, and the 400 free relay of Kara Mustard, Jameson, Rose Aldrett and Mallory Horn.

Individual second-place finishes for NP went to Aldrett in the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle, Horn in the 200 IM and 100 backstroke, Jones in diving, Berea in the 100 butterfly and Jacobs in the 100 freestyle. NP coach Steve Maxwell also cited the strong swim of Megan Young in the 100 breaststroke, who had a third-place time.

Winners for the NP boys were Grant Gish in the 100 butterfly and 100 breaststroke, Parker Horn in the 200 freestyle, Luke Steigerwalt in the 200 IM, Conner Page in diving, David Thompson in the 100 frestyle, Kelley Murphy in the 500 freestyle, Jake Mitchell in the 100 backstroke, the 200 medley relay team of Gish, Wes Virt, Steigerwalt and Todd Horn, the 200 free relay of Virt, Mitchell, Parker Horn and Thompson, and the 400 free relay of Parker Horn, Todd Horn, Thompson and Murphy.

Individual seconds for NP went to Thompson in the 200 freestyle, Virt in the 200 IM and 100 backstroke, Will Coleman in the 50 freestyle, Cord Baird in diving, Murphy in the 100 butterfly, Steigerwalt in the 100 freestyle, Todd Horn in the 500 freestyle and Luke Reed in the 100 breaststroke.

Cougars beat Shelby: Greenfield-Central's boys swim team beat Shelbyville 119-61 to improve to 9-1 in the boys meet season. Bailey Willoughby won the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle. Other winners were Gaunt in diving, Patrick Stutz in the 100 butterfly, Tomer in the 100 backstroke, Carlton in the 100 freestyle, the 200 free relay of Stutz, Wilburn, Willoughby and Connell and the 400 free relay of Cummins, Barber, Jones and Wilburn.

G-C's girls won 120-54 to improve to 6-3-1 in the dual meet season. G-C celebrated senior night for Carly Fernandes, Taylor Johnson and Sam Gulden. Winners were 200 Medley Relay: Fernandes, Stirn, Johnson, Cermak 200 Free: Fernandes 200 IM: Smith 50 Free: Johnson 100 Fly: Johnson 100 Free: Cermak 200 Free Relay: Fernandes, Curry, Gulden, Johnson 100 Back: Fernandes 100 Breast: Ensign


G-C beats BG: Greenfield-Central beat Beech Grove 51-28 Thursday night in a dual meet. No individual results were provided.

The Cougars next wrestle Saturday at the Mt. Vernon 6-way.
