Thursday county wrap: EH girls beat Morristown, NP falls to TC

Girls basketball

Eastern Hancock 57, Morristown 31: The Royals improved to 12-4 on the year and 4-2 in Mid-Hoosier Conference play with a convincing victory over the Yellow Jackets. 

Hannah Best had 22 points to lead the Royals. Kiersten Schrope had a double-double with 12 points, 13 rebounds, four steals and seven assists. Peyton Neisler added 10 points and five boards for EH.

Kristen Eischenadded seven rebounds. Shelby Mourey had four assists.

The Royals jumped out quickly, leading 14-5 after a quarter and 25-13 at half.

The Royals next play Jan. 19 at Waldron for a 2 p.m. tipoff.

Morristown fell to 6-7 (2-4 MHC).

Triton Central 67, New Palestine 37: The Dragons fell to 2A No. 5 Triton Central on the road Tuesday night.

It was the first time the Dragons had been beaten on the TC floor since 2001.

Haley Stratman scored 11 points, hitting 3-of-5 from 3-point range, to lead the Dragons. Natalie Kehrt and Gia Nitschke scored seven points and dished two assists apiece. Carly Hackler had seven points, six rebounds, four assists and two blocked shots. Adie Lorsug had five rebounds for the Dragons.

NP shot the ball well from outside, hitting 6-of-10 from beyond the arc.

TC was led by Natalie Stephenson's 16 points, all in the first half as TC built a 36-14 edge at halftime. Sarah Rogian scored 14 points and had eight rebounds, while and Samantha Dewey had 14 points and nine assists. TC shot 25-of-57 from the floor and 11-of-14 from the line.

TC is now 14-1 on the season and has won 10 straight games. NP is now 2-13 on the season and next plays Tuesday at Beech Grove.

Gymnastics

New Palestine 103.85, Shelbyville 80.85: The Dragons improved to 3-0 on the season with a dual meet victory Thursday at New Palestine.

The Dragons had the top four all-around gymnasts and won all four individual events.

Kaytlin Fee was first in all-around at 35.875, winning the beam (9.45), floor (8.975) and finishing second on both vault (9.0) and bars (8.45). Kenzie Hoffman was second in the all-around with a score of 34.765, winning the vault (9.15), finishing second on beam (8.95) and floor (8.4) and third on bars (8.175).

Shelly Huesman was third in all-around at 32.175, winning on bars (8.725). She was third on beam (7.55) and fourth on both vault (8.275) and floor (7.625). Kylie Zehner was fourth in all-around (30.4), finishing second on floor (8.4), fourth on beam (7.45) and sixth on vault (8.0).

Annabelle Dockins placed third on vault (8.65), fourth on bars (7.825) and third on floor (7.825). Ciarra Hough placed fifth on vault (8.05), Savannah Eldridge placed sixth on bars (6.6), Maddie Wallace placed fifth on floor (7.225), and Carley Miller placed sixth on floor (7.1).

The Dragons next compete Jan. 19 in a four-way meet at Richmond.
