Mt. Vernon 62, Greenfield-Central 49: The Marauders used an 20-0 run to start the third quarter, and outscored G-C 25-3 in that period to pull away to a Hoosier Heritage Conference victory.

G-C used a barrage of 13 3-pointers to keep close -- including seven in the first half that  allowed the Cougars to take a 25-23 lead at halftime. MV used the third-quarter run to take a 20-point lead going into the final period.

C.J. Coleman scored 22 points and was our McCordsville Family Dentistry Player of the Game. Stephen Turner added 21. Dan Werner scored 10 for the Marauders.

Jordan Keener hit five 3-pointers to lead G-C with 15 points. Derek Conley hit four triples and scored 14 points.

MV, ranked No. 2 in Class 3A, remained perfect at 9-0 on the season and 3-0 in HHC play. The Marauders host Hamilton Heights Saturday in a game that we'll broadcast at HancockCountySports.com. G-C is now 1-8 (0-3). The Cougars next play Friday at Plainfield, then return home Saturday, Jan. 12 to host Triton Central.

New Palestine 60, Delta 48: The Dragons improved to 8-3 on the year and remained tied with Mt. Vernon and Yorktown in the HHC lead with a road victory.

Brandon Jonas scored a career-high 21 points on 8-of-9 shooting, and also had five boards. Michael Morris added 15 points, seven rebounds and three assists for the Dragons. Ryan Curry scored 11 points and had two steals, and Samson Haynes added seven points and four rebounds.

NP trailed 19-13 in the second quarter and trailed by two at halftime, but used a 14-3 run to start the second half to take a 37-28 edge, then pulled away gradually from that point forward.

NP held Delta to 31 percent shooting from the floor, while shooting 48 percent itself. The Dragons also had a 30-24 rebounding edge.

NP, which is now 3-0 in HHC play, next plays Friday at Pendleton Heights.

Muncie Burris 59, Eastern Hancock 56: Burris' MacKenzie Rathbun used a huge second half to carry his team to a close victory over EH.

Rathbun scored 25 of his game-high 29 points in the second half to lead the Owls in a see-saw game. Isaiah Anderson added 22 points, and hit the 3-pointer that gave the Owls the lead for good at 50-48 in the final three minutes.

EH trailed by six with 3:21 left, but coming out of a timeout, Victor Vincz hit back-to-back shots and then a pull-up 3-pointer from the left wing to give the Royals a 48-47 edge with 2:17 to go. That's when Anderson pulled up from the top of the key and dropped his second 3-pointer of the game to give the Owls the lead 50-48. Burris hit nine foul shots in the closing moments, but EH had a chance to tie in the closing seconds after Shane McCormick cut the deficit to 58-56 and Burris was called for traveling with 5.6 seconds left. Vincz had a good look, but left a driving shot short, allowing the Owls to clinch the win.

Vincz scored 12 of his 14 points in the fourth quarter. He also had six assists and seven rebounds. Shane McCormick had 16 points, hitting 6-of-9 from the floor. Cody Wallace added eight points and seven rebounds. Garrett Hancock scored seven.

The Royals trailed 11-6 after a quarter, but used a 10-2 run in which Wallace scored six points to take a 24-21 lead at the half. After scoring the first two points of the third quarter, Burris went on a 13-0 run to take the lead.

EH is now 2-8 -- with seven of those losses coming in close games. Burris improved to 4-3. EH's next game will be Friday at 1A No. 8 Waldron.
