Saturday wrestling roundup: Local teams have strong showings

Dragons 5th at Mater Dei: New Palestine placed fifth at the 16-team Evansville Mater Dei Invitational.
Union County, the No. 2-ranked team in Kentucky, won the event with 203.5 points, just 4.5 ahead of Franklin and 5.5 ahead of host Mater Dei. NP was just 1.5 points back of Belleville West of Illinois.
The Dragons had one champion, C.J. Red at 106, winning a 6-4 decision in the final. Tommy Cash (120), Robbie Elsea (145) and Brian Wagner (182) all placed second in their respective weight classes, and all fell in one-point final-round matches.
Other placers were Gordon Wagner fourth (138), Willie Bryan fifth (285), Logan Hunt sixth (152) and Jared Timberman sixth (132).
NP next competes Saturday at the New Palestine Invitational.
Cougars 7th at Connersville: Greenfield-Central finished seventh at the 32-team Connersville Spartan Classic.
G-C was tied with Roncalli with 134.5 points. East Noble (222) won the title, ahead of Carroll (Allen), Connersville and Cathedral.
G-C had a champion in 152-pounder Josh Farrell, defeating Cathedral's Anthony Corsaro 4-3 in the final. Austin Rose was runner-up at 170. Sam Locke placed third at 132, and Taylor Wright fifth at 113.
G-C next competes Saturday at the North Central Invitational.
EH 11th, MV 14th at Ben Davis: Eastern Hancock had 160 points and Mt. Vernon 148.5 in the 17-team Ben Davis invitational. Hamilton Southeastern (596) won the event, with host BD (444) and Terre Haute South (396) taking second and third.
For MV, Colin McAtee (113) finished third and Dustin Tackitt (160) was fifth.
For EH, Nathan Kell (138) finished sixth, as did Hunter Knopp (170), Kenny Delp (182) and Josh Ramage (195).
