Thursday county wrap: EH girls hoops wins, G-C/NP swimming updates

Eastern Hancock 50, Northeastern 47: Eastern Hancock's girls basketball team held off a furious fourth-quarter comeback by Northeastern to win 50-47 Thursday night.
Kiersten Schrope had a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds for EH. She also had five assists and three blocked shots. Hannah Best led the Royals with 12 points and three steals. Kaytlin Eastes had 10 points and eight rebounds.
EH also got a six-point, six-rebound game from Kristen Eischen, while Alora Marshall had five boards and four steals.
The Royals used a 15-6 second quarter to lead 28-15 at the half. Northeastern trailed 37-25 after three, but scored 22 fourth-quarter points to close the Royals' lead.
EH is now 5-3 on the year. The Royals next play Tuesday at home against Lapel.
Dragons split with Delta: New Palestine's girls defeated Delta on Thursday night, while the boys fell in their second meet of the year.
The NP girls won 109-77. Erin Trimpe was a four-event winner for the Dragons, winning the 100 backstroke, 200 IM, the 200 medley relay and the 400 free relay. Other Winners for the Dragons were Katie Mustard in the 200 freestyle, Erin Trimpe in the 100 breaststroke and 200 IM, Emily Trimpe in the 50 freestyle, Shannon Jones in diving, Megan Prosser in the 100 backstroke, the 200 medley relay of Lily Horn, Erin Trimpe, Emily Trimpe and Addison Virt, the 200 free relay of Virt, Prosser, Rachel Wineman and Mustard, and the 400 free relay of Emily Trimpe, Mustard, Kenzie Wells and Erin Trimpe.
Finishing second were Horn in the 100 butterfly and Virt in the 100 breaststroke. NP coach Steve Maxwell also cited the swims of Prosser in the 200 IM, Hannah Ayer in diving and Mustard in the 100 freestyle as strong efforts.
In the boys meet, NP fell to Delta 114-70. Winners for the Dragons were Grant Gish in the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle, Luke Steigerwalt in the 100 butterfly -- missing his lifetime best by 0.33 seconds -- and Chris Dodd in the 100 breaststroke. Individual seconds for the Dragons went to Conner Page in diving and Steigerwalt in the 100 backstroke. Maxwell also cited strong swims by Parker Horn in the 200 freestyle and 100 freestyle, Luke Reed in the 200 IM and 100 breaststroke, Will Coleman in the 50 freestyle and Page in the 100 backstroke.
NP next competes Saturday at the East Central Relays.
Cougars win, tie against PH: Greenfield-Central's boys team beat Pendleton Heights and the girls tied the Arabians Thursday night.
The G-C boys won 113-72. Another solid victory by the guys. They continue to learn and improve every week. Firs Place Finishers were Drew Logan in the 200 freestyle and 100 backstroke, Bailey Willougby in the 200 IM and 100 backstroke, Patrick Stutz in the 500 freestyle and the 400 free relay of Wilburn, Willoughby, Shelton, N. Graber.
