The Marauders are now 5-2 on the season. They next play Saturday afternoon at Yorktown.
Shelbyville 52, New Palestine 44: Despite two players in double figures, New Palestine was unable to complete a second-half rally against the Golden Bears.
NP trailed 43-29 late in the third, but began to rally, with a basket ahead of the horn by Carly Hackler, another hoop and two FTs by Haley Stratman sandwiched around a basket by Katlyn Keele. After a Shelbyville free throw and two free throws by Natalie Kehrt, NP had rolled off a 10-1 run and cut the deficit to five with 1:50 left.
But Shelbyville was able to hit 6-of-10 from the line down the stretch and hold off a Dragon run.
NP shot a season-best 48 percent from the floor (16-of-33) and got 17 points from Stratman and 10 from Kehrt -- both career-highs. It was Stratman's fourth consecutive double-figure scoring game, as she hit 6-of-12 from the floor and was 3-of-8 from the 3-point line. Kehrt was 3-for-6 and hit a pair of 3-pointers. Adie Lorsung added six points on 2-of-2 both from the floor and the line.
Kehrt also had a team-high six rebounds, as NP outrebounded Shelbyville 27-20, and had three assists and a team-high three steals. Hackler added four boards. Taylor Shull had a team-high four assists.
Riley Achenbach had a big night for Shelbyville, hitting 7-of-8 from the floor for 20 points. Jacqueline Lux added 10 for the Golden Bears.
