Saturday girls hoops roundup: MV, EH win with strong 2nd halves

Mt. Vernon 56, Pendleton Heights 33: The Marauders won their 22nd straight Hoosier Heritage Conference game, pulling away on the road to beat PH.
The Marauders outscored PH 17-6 in the third quarter to pull ahead to a 42-26 lead, then stretched the lead in the fourth.
The Marauders held PH to less than 30 percent shooting on the day.
MV (5-1, 2-0 HHC) next plays Tuesday at home against Anderson.
Eastern Hancock 49, Union County 42: The Royals trailed by nine at halftime, but outscored UC 31-15 in the second half to pull out the victory on the road.
Again, the Royals got lots of contributions from several players. Kristen Eischen had 17 points and eight rebounds to lead the way. Kiersten Schrope had 13 points, six assists and four steals. Hannah Best had 10 points and four steals.
Lauren Harmon and Peyton Neisler had six boards each, while Shelby Mourey had five boards and five steals.
EH is now 4-2 on the year. The Royals travel to North Decatur for an MHC matchup Tuesday.
Rushville 52, Greenfield-Central 43: The Cougars fell at home to a solid Rushville squad, with the Lions pulling ahead in the middle two quarters.
Emily Koers led the Cougars with 12 points. Sara Jones and Shelby Oldham had eight points each. Savannah Girolami scored six points for G-C.
Rushville outscored G-C 14-10 in the second quarter to build a 21-16 halftime lead, then outscored the Cougars 22-20 in the third to make it 43-36 going into the final eight minutes.
G-C is now 1-5 overall and 0-2 in HHC play. The Cougars next play Friday at home against New Palestine. Listen to the live webcast here at HancockCountySports.com.
Delta 40, New Palestine 34: Delta outscored NP 11-4 in the final three minutes to pull away to a Hoosier Heritage Conference win.
It was a back-and-forth game for much of the afternoon -- NP led 8-3 after a quarter, but Delta responded with an 11-2 second quarter to take a four-point lead at halftime.
A basket by Haley Stratman gave the Dragons a 30-29 lead with three minutes left, but Delta's Kaitlyn Rawls scored on a drive on the ensuing possession to give the Eagles a one-point lead. After a turnover, Delta's Ericka Pursley hit a shot, then knocked down a free throw. Delta would eventually score seven straight.
Stratman led NP with 10 points, five rebounds and three steals. Natalie Kehrt added nine points, six rebounds and two assists. Carly Hackler had four rebounds and two assists for NP.
Pursley scored 14 and Rawls had 10 points and 11 rebounds for Delta, which was held to 32 percent shooting, but hit 15-of-22 from the line. NP was 6-for-9 from the stripe.
NP is now 1-4 on the season and 0-1 in HHC play. The Dragons travel to Shelbyville Tuesday.
