Tuesday roundup: Marauders GBB beat LC, Dragon swim ties Greewnood

Mt. Vernon 50, Lawrence Central 49: The Marauders' Sydney Shelton hit a go-ahead 3-pointer with 1:07 left, and the MV defense stopped the Bears twice in the closing seconds to win the game, including a steal in the closing seconds after a pair of missed free throws.
The game turned in the final three minutes. LC's Kyra Tucker hit a 3 to put LC up 47-44, but Rachel Houck answered with a 3 for the Marauders with two and a half minutes left.
MV rallied from a seven-point second half deficit and outscored LC 14-12 in the fourth quarter.
MV had three players in double figures. Houck had 14 points to lead the Marauders, including a pair of 3-pointers. Shelton had 12 points, including 7-of-9 from the line. Erica Moore had 11 points. Olivia Coleman added eight points, but suffered an injury late in the second quarter. Krista Shockley had four points.
LC was led by Kyra Tucker's 18 points, and 15 for McKenzie Telfair. Calyn Hosea had 10 points.
LC turned a 12-11 deficit into a 27-23 lead at halftime, but it was sliced to 37-36 at the end of three.
MV is now 2-0 on the season. The Marauders travel to Rushville on Friday.
MV won the JV game 32-30.
New Castle 52, Greenfield-Central 38: The Trojans outscored G-C 17-8 in the fourth quarter to pull away at Cougar Gym.
Brooke Bell led the Cougars with 16 points. Sara Jones added nine. Emiliy Koers had five, while Shelby Oldham and Shelby Davis had four points each for the Marauders.
G-C trailed 14-7 at the quarter. The Cougars cut the deficit to 20-16 at the half and 35-30 at the end of the third.
The Cougars are now 1-2 heading into Friday's game against Pendleton Heights.
G-C won the JV game 29-27.
Franklin Central 73, New Palestine 13: The Dragons fell to FC on Tuesday night. Haley Stratman scored eight points to lead the Dragons. Carly Hackler had eight rebounds, while Gia Nitschke had five boards. Natalie Kehrt had two assists and four rebounds. Emma Laughlin had two steals for NP.
Lizzy Pedigo had 22 points and Abbey Titzer 19 for the Flashes.
FC won the JV game.
NP next plays Tuesday at Westfield.
Dragons tie Greenwood, beat Roncalli: New Palestine tied Greenwood and beat Roncalli in a three-way meet. The Dragons and Woodmen tied at 128, with Roncalli totaling 73 points.
Winners for NP were Erin Trimpe in the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle, Emily Trimpe in the 100 freestyle and 100 breaststroke and the 200 free relay team of Rachel Wineman, Kenzie Wells, Katie Mustard and Addison Virt.
Placing second for NP were Mustard in the 200 IM, Wineman in the 50 freestyle, Virt in the 100 butterfly, Megan Prosser in the 100 backstroke, the 200 medley relay team of Prosser, Virt, Claire Hornsby and Emily Trimpe, and the 400 free relay team of Emily Trimpe, Erin Trimpe, Prosser and Mustard.
Individual third-place finishers for NP were Shannon Jones in diving, Mustard in the 100 freestyle, Lily Horn in the 100 backstroke and Virt in the 100 breaststroke.
The Dragons next compete Monday at home against Pendleton Heights and Rushville in a girls meet.
