Royals drop season opener to Elwood

Eastern Hancock's girls basketball team fell in its season opener Wednesday, with Elwood winning 48-39.
EH led 10-8 after a quarter, but Elwood turned it into a 25-20 edge at the break and outscored the Royals in each the third and fourth quarters -- leading 34-26 after three.
Junior Kiersten Schrope led EH with 10 points, six rebounds, six steals and two blocked shots. Hannah Best had seven points and two assists. Lauren Harmon had six points, seven rebounds and three blocks. Kristen Eischen also had six points and five boards. Alora Marshall and Kaytlin Eastes had six rebounds apiece.
The Royals are now 0-1 heading into Saturday's home opener against Muncie South. The JV game tips off at 1 p.m.
The rest of the county tips either Friday or Saturday. Greenfield-Central plays both nights -- against Cambridge City Lincoln on Friday, visiting Franklin on Saturday. Mt. Vernon and New Palestine both open Saturday at home -- MV facing Connersville and NP meeting Whiteland.
