Vernon hosting Delta in Sectional 13, and Eastern Hancock visiting Scecina in Sectional 37. MV advanced with an impressive 54-34 victory over Pendleton Heights. Greenfield-Central fell to Delta 28-3 in the other Sectional 13 semifinal. EH throttled Northeastern 34-6 to earn a sectional championship game spot. Mt. Vernon 54, Pendleton Heights 34: MV scored 40 points in the game's first 14 minutes, and scored all of its points through the first possession of the second half to improve to 10-1 on the season and break the 40-point mark for the ninth time this season. MV's three-headed running monster helped contribute to 634 yards of total offense. Tyler Dicks ran for 287 yards and two touchdowns, and had a 42-yard touchdown reception. He had TD runs of 10 and 42 yards. He also set up MV's first two TDs -- by Andy Spears and Anthony Burnett -- with runs of 43 and 75 yards. Burnett had rushing TDs of 22 and 42 yards in the first quarter and finished with 168 yards on 13 carries. Spears had 55 yards and three touchdowns rushing. MV scored 27 points in the first quarter and led 47-7 at halftime. Dicks' 42-yard run at the 10:08 mark of the third quarter made it a 54-13 game and saw the final possession for MV's first-string offense. Marauder QB Jordan Miller was 2-for-2 for 49 yards and a touchdown. MV scored 21 points in just nine offensive plays. After Dicks' 50-yard kickoff return set MV up at the Arabians' 46, Dicks' 43-yard run set up Spears' 3-yard plung just 1:06 into the game. MV forced three-and-outs on PH's first four possessions, and answered each. The Marauders' second drive started at their own 3, but Dicks broke a 75-yard run on the first play and Burnett carried the fianl 22 yards on the next play. Burnett capped a four-play, 61-yard drie with a 42-yard run, and then Spears finished a nine-play, 72-yard drive with with a 2-yard plung with 24 seconds left in the first to make it 27-0. MV had two scores in the first two minutes of the second -- a 3-and-out led to a 42-yard TD pass from Miller to Dicks. A fumble on the ensuing kickoff led to a 6-yard run by Spears. MV later scored on Dicks' 10-yard run, which answered a PH score on a 48-yard TD pass from Jesse Furrow to Jon Furrow. PH's offense put up some solid numbers, too. Jesse Furrow, the Arabians' sophomore quarterback, completed 23-of-36 for 367 yards and five touchdowns. He completed nine passes for 156 yards and TDs of 48, 30 and 9 yards to Jon Furrow, and five passes and 118 yards to Kurt Talbert, who had TD catches of 19 and 24 yards. Cody Cochran had five catches for 74 yards for the Arabians. MV (10-1) hosts Delta (8-3) next week. PH finishes the season with an 8-3 record and a second-place finish in the HHC. Delta 28, Greenfield-Central 3: The Cougars got a field goal at the end of the half from Chas Daniel, but G-C fell to Delta on the road to end the season. Delta QB Cade Jones ran for a TD in the opening half and threw for two touchdowns -- one to Rob Fox, the other to Ryan Bickford. RB Joe Spegal finished the scoring with a fourth-quarter TD. Delta scored a touchdown in each of the four quarters. The Eagles (8-3) travel to Mt. Vernon next week. G-C finishes the year 4-7. Eastern Hancock 34, Northeastern 6: For the second straight week, EH scored 21 first-quarter points and used the big start to oust a Tri-Eastern Conference foe. The Royals gained their first six-win season and sectional title game appearance since 2006. EH QB Logan Splater got things started with a 37-yard TD run, and Spencer Gilbert added two first-quarter TDs. Cooper Henderson's TD made it a 27-6 game at the half. EH led 27-6 at the half and added a 57-yard Splater TD run in the second half to win. Splater ran for 125 yards and threw for 28 to lead the Royals. EH is 6-5 on the year. The Royals will travel to face No. 6/7 Scecina (8-3) next week for the sectional championship. Elsewhere in the HHC: Yorktown fell to Eastbrook 35-20 in Class 3A Sectional 19. Elsewhere in the MIFC: Indian Creek beat Beech Grove 28-8 in Class 3A Sectional 22. IC will play Greensburg next week.
