Greenfield-Central snapped New Palestine's six-year sectional championship string by beating the Dragons 2-0 Saturday afternoon in the Class 2A Mt. Vernon sectional championship.

Sammie McCoy scored late in the first half to put the Cougars up 1-0 on a feed from Emily Koers. McCoy then scored again in the second half to put the game away.

McCoy scored her 26th and 27th goals of the season for the Cougars in the victory.
She also had a three-goal hat trick in the 6-0 semifinal victory over Shelbyville.

Katie Peters posted her second straight tournament shutout, the school-record 41st of her career.

G-C moves on to the Shelbyville regional, where the Cougars will face Warren Central at approximately 7 p.m. Wednesday. The Cougars are now 11-6 on the season.

NP finishes the year with a 12-7 mark and its third straight Hoosier Heritage Conference championship.

"I'm proud of the girls," NP coach Bobby Holden said. "I'm so grateful to be the coach of a team that worked so hard for every game and accomplished so much. The five seniors (Amy Hilton, Jennifer Roberts, Alyssa Mouzin, Kristin Wagner, and Lauren Joray) are great girls that lead a team through an amazing year. They accomplished 12 great wins, an undefeated HHC championship, and a unforgettable season they can be proud of forever. I will not forget their dedication, inspiration and leadership as they did such a great job taking the team through a very successful season. Thank you girls for a great season.
