Vernon 3, Franklin 1: The Marauders finished the regular season with a 3-1 victory over the Grizzly Cubs. Lauren Bradburn had a goal and an assist for the Marauders. Hannah Whitaker and Chelsea Thomas both scored goals for MV. Blaire Viehweg had an assist. Olivia Coleman made three saves in the Marauder net. MV finishes the season 11-4-1. The Marauders will meet New Palestine at 7:15 p.m. Thursday in the Mt. Vernon sectional semifinals. Boys soccer Fishers 3, Greenfield-Central 1: The Tigers completed a sweep of the three Hancock County schools by taking a 2-0 lead in the opening half and knocking off the Cougars in the regular season finale for both teams. G-C finishes the regular season with an 8-6 mark. The HHC runners-up will open 2A Shelbyville sectional play at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday against Mt. Vernon. Cross country Royals win Eastern Hancock Invitational: Eastern Hancock's girls team won its own invitational, placing five runners in the top six. Shelby Wyatt was the individual champion, with Cara Johnson and Karlee Gray taking the top three spots. Hannah Miller was fourth and Hope Spaulding sixth for the Royals. In the HHC: No. 1 Yorktown clinched the girls golf state championship Saturday afternoon. It was the HHC's 12th state championship (and the 17th title won by an HHC school, counting titles won pre-HHC), and the first in an individual sport in the HHC era. For Yorktown, it joins the two state titles won by the volleyball team in 2000 and 2011. Six different HHC schools have won at least one state title. Yorktown (girls golf, volleyball), Delta (boys basketball, volleyball, wrestling) and New Palestine (softball, baseball) have won state championships in multiple sports.
