Home » Football NewsFB 8/31 Saturday Morning QB: Mid-Indiana Football ConferenceSeptember 2, 2012 By Andrew Smith of Hancock County SportsWeek 3 is finished in the MIFC and now three of the five league teams have played conference games. So, not much has been figured out yet. Indian Creek, the only 3A team in a league that is otherwise populated by 1A squads, has been dominant in league play of late, and had a big victory last week. Eastern Hancock, however, showed itself very well in a 10-point loss. It's been a rapid rebuild for Pat Echeverria's program, which is seeking its first winning season since 2006. Meanwhile, Class A No. 4 Milan was defeated by Lawrenceburg in a non-conference game, so the Royals and Indians will meet next week in a game between solid teams looking to get back on the winning track. Don't count out North Decatur, which is the only unbeaten left in the conference at 3-0. Next week features another slate of non-conference games except EH-Milan. Indian Creek 42, Eastern Hancock 32: The MIFC's marquee game of the night featured the Braves knocking off the Royals, but EH showed itself well. Matthew Wray -- the latest in a long line of outstanding Indian Creek quarterbacks -- threw for 268 yards and four TDs. EH's Logan Splater threw three TD passes -- all in the fourth quarter. Two went to Derrik Noel, one more to Cooper Henderson. Henderson also kicked a field goal for EH. IC outgained EH 450-318 in an offensive show. Daily Reporter (subscription) | Johnson Co. Daily Journal (subscription) Lawrenceburg 45, Milan 16: The Indians dropped to 2-1 on the season after falling to Lawrenceburg. QB Gavin Detraz ran for a TD and threw a 60-yard TD pass to Brandon Beard for the Indians. The Indians also posted a safety. SEI Local Sports Knightstown 64, South Decatur 28: The Panthers became the second straight team to score 60 points against South Decatur. Knightstown has had a solid start to the year with an explosive offense. The Panthers are 2-1 but have scored at least 32 points in each game. South Decatur is now 1-2. North Decatur 48, Wes-Del 8: North Decatur improved to 3-0 with its own explosive offense, winning big at Wes-Del. Looking ahead: Next week's Milan at Eastern Hancock game is the only conference game on the docket. Indian Creek travels to face a 2-1 Providence team. Knightstown travels to North Decatur and South Decatur travels to face former MIFC team Edinburgh. Standings Indian Creek 1-0/1-2. Next week: at Providence (2-1), 7:30 Eastern Hancock 1-1/2-1. Next week: vs. Milan, 7 (Webcast: Hancock County Sports) Milan 0-0/2-1. Next week: at Eastern Hancock, 7 (Webcast: Hancock County Sports) North Decatur 0-0/3-0.
