MV's Brown named Indiana All-Star
March 22, 2012By Andrew Smith of Hancock County Sports
Mt. Vernon guard Jessica Brown was named to the Indiana All-Star girls basketball team Wednesday.
Brown is the first Marauder to be selected to the team since Johna Goff was chosen in 2000. Both players finished in the top three in Miss Basketball voting -- Goff was runner-up in 2000, Brown finished third to Jessica Rupright of Norwell and Nariah Taylor of North Central in voting announced earlier Wednesday.
A 1,000-point scorer, Brown averaged 14 points and 5 assists per game this season, helping lead the Marauders to a 23-6 record and a 3A state runner-up finish. During her career, MV won two sectionals, two Hoosier Heritage Conference titles -- the Marauders have won 20 consecutive HHC games -- and three Hancock County championships.
The 5-foot-6 guard played the point for MV throughout much of its run the last four years. A four-year varsity player, she was part of a squad that went 75-19 during her varsity career, including 45-8 the last two years.
She will play collegiately for NAIA powerhouse Indiana Wesleyan and coach Steve Brooks.
