Home » Girls' Basketball NewsLady Hornets advance to regional semifinalsFebruary 28, 2012 By Taylor Wall of Hancock County High SchoolThe Hancock County Lady Hornets torched the nylon at the Owensboro Sportscenter by shooting 53% from the field which propelled them to a 60-56 victory over the 10th District Champion Ohio County Lady Eagles. The Lady Hornets were led by Beth Rates who poured in 24 points along with 11 boards, five blocks, five steals, and three assists. Mollie Bozarth did not allow the big venue jitters to bother her, as she seemed to have ice water in her veins by knocking down five 3-pointers and finished the night with 19 points. Also in the scoring column were Audry Hawkins with 9 points, Brenna Basham with 6 and Tori Kirk with 2. The Lady Hornets prepare for their 3rd Region semifinal contest against the Lady Cougars of Grayson County which is set to tip off at 6PM on Friday, March 3rd at the Owensboro Sportscenter. Grayson County has compiled an impressive 27-6 overall record and won 20 of its 21 battles against 3rd Region opponents. However, with three days off to prepare expect Mike Orr’s Lady Hornets to battle from the opening tip to the final buzzer. Come out and support your Lady Hornets Friday night as they look to advance to the regional finals.
