Home » Academic Team NewsQuiz Bowl tournament at Jeff CityNovember 22, 2011 By Maribeth Frevert of Hallsville High School
from Coach Scott Allen On Saturday the Quiz Bowl team participated in the Bill Currie Memorial Academic Tournament at Jefferson City High School. There were 20 teams from around the state in attendance. Hallsville had two teams entered in the tournament. (We were asked to bring a JV team to compete in this Varsity level tournament because a team had withdrawn at the last moment and a replacement could not be found.) Our Varsity team went 6-4 for the day and placed 7th in the tournament. Notable victories over Centralia, Columbia Independent School, Smith-Cotton and Helias. Leading scorers for the team were Lee March and Madeline Koenig-Schappe. The JV team held their own against a difficult Varsity level field of teams. They went 3-7 on the day with two very close losses that could have evened their record. Leading scorers were Josh Null (1st tournament ever) and Maddie Robertson. Out of 91 students in attendance, we placed 3 in the top 20 in total scoring for the day. PS. We had a cheering squad with us on Saturday. Zack Bequette's mother and his grandparents (drove in from Iowa) came and watched him play on Saturday and cheered the team on. Thanks for the support.....the kids and I appreciated it.
