Baseball freshman team update
April 21, 2014Hallsville High School
Last week the Baseball C-team had two nights of baseball.
Wednesday night the Indians played host to rival, Southern Boone. Johnny Burkholder was on the hill for theIndians. The young slinger had a very efficient night. A rough third inning gave the Eagles the edge they needed scoring 5 of their 8 in that inning. Hallsville -unable to get anything going offensively, lost the first game 1-8. In the second game Brayden Blakemore took the mound and struggled to find his groove. With a rough first inning and a similar second inning Blakemore did not make it out of the second inning. Jacob Knowles came in to relieve. Southern Boone put bat to ball really well. The Indians were shut out in three innings losing 0-13.
The following night the C-team traveled to Boonville to take on the Pirates. Jordan Brown took the mound for the Indians in game 1 of a double header. Brenden Howard came in relief of Brown to get some pitching experience. The Indians got down early and significantly and were not able to climb back. They made the attempt though scoring 5 runs in the fifth on some patient at-bats. It was not enough, as we went down 5-15. The second game saw more misfortune. Again, trying to get some guys experience Cole Wilhite got the start and showed some good things. Jacob Knowles was the relief pitcher. The same tune was played with lack of offense and Hallsville went down 1-11.
Back to back double headers were rough on the young Indians. Arms were starting to get sore and the pitching was beginning to get stretched out. On the bright side the young club is starting to make progress defensively. Making the routine plays and being where they need to be. If we can find out our balance between hitting and defense/ pitching we will be fine. That was our motto after Thursday, consistency.
We are back in action Tuesday hosting Fatima for a JV/C-team double header.
