BOONVILLE..........6 (8 innings)
Jr. Varsity: HALLSVILLE.........6
In the season opener for both schools, the Hallsville Indians scored three times in the top of the 7th to take a 5-4 lead in the varsity contest. Singles by Sean Wooten and Collin Drummond, a bases-on-balls to Joe Forge, and two Boonville errors and a passed ball allowed the Indians to have victory in their sights.
But the Pirates knotted up the score to force extra innings on a hit-by-pitch, stolen base, and a two-out single up the middle scoring the tieing run.
With two outs in Hallsville's half of the 8th, Austin Silar drew a walk and Wooten banged out his third hit of the day, but the Indians could not score. However, in their half, the Pirates used a one-out walk and a double to put the game-winning run at third. A perfect execution of the squeeze play gave Boonville the victory.
Wooten's 3 for 4 performance at the plate lead the Indians and Cole Burkett ripped two hits and drove in a run. Nathan Goett collected 2 RBI with a sacrifice fly and a 7th inning infield ground ball.
Four indian pitchers saw mound time: Derrek Trickel (3 inn.)CJ Ashburn (2 inn.) Cole McGee (1-1/3 inn.) and Lucas Stewart (1 inn.)
In the JV contest Hallsville scored early and again late to garner the 6-3 win. Max Belsheim hammered a two-RBI double in the 2nd inning and Jacob Maxwell drilled a two-RBI single in the 5th.
