Speach team national qualifiers !

March 11, 2014
Hallsville High School

This weekend members of the speech/debate team competed to qualify to nationals at Pattonville HS.  After 9 rounds of competition, we had a lot to celebrate!  Tonia Bartlett qualified to nationals in Original Oratory, and Makayla Crouch and Madison Crouch qualified in Duo Interpretation.  As a team, we were also awarded our full charter membership after only two years of competing as a part of the National Forensic League--this is achieved by having enough participating members who earn degrees for success throughout the year.

And finally, because we had so many students make it to the final round, we accumulated enough points to earn 2nd place overall in speech events!  It was awesome to have our small squad win over such large school programs as Pattonville, Parkway schools, Ladue/Clayton, Columbia, Jeff City, etc.

The following individuals placed in finals:
Tonia Bartlett-2nd place Original Oratory (national qualifier)
Makayla Crouch/Madison Crouch-2nd place Duo Interpretation (national qualifiers)
Makayla Crouch-2nd place Dramatic Interpretation (national qualifier, but will go in duo instead)
Tonia Bartlett-3rd place Humorous Interpretation (1st alternate to nationals, but will go in oratory)
Madison Crouch-5th place Dramatic Interpretation (2nd alternate to nationals, but will go in duo)
Kaitlyn Gebhardt/Matthew Baumgartner-6th place Duo Interpretation

Lee March, Derrek Trickel, Maddie Robertson, Mariah Isom, Ashley Martin and McKena Hayden also contributed to the team award.

The national tournament is June 15-21 in Overland Park, KS.

This Friday and Saturday, the team will be competing at MSHSAA districts.  Congratulate these students on a great weekend when you see them!
