8th grade boys win big in final game of the season

January 2, 2014

from Coach Jordan Carmack

On Friday, December 20th the 8th grade Indians hosted our neighbors from the north, the Centralia Panthers in our final game of the season.  The game was very exciting for the boys from start to finish.  The game started out with a lot of points in the first half for the Indians and they would finish with the most points scored in a game all season.  The first quarter saw the Indians jump out to an early lead on the Panthers thanks to great defense and easy baskets.  The full court pressure proved to be too much for the Panthers to handle and the Indians led 16-6 after one period.  The second quarter the Indians could not seem to find the same intensity that they played with in the first quarter and with too many turnovers and missed buckets the Indians allowed the Panthers to creep back into the game before halftime.  The Indians still clung to a 30-23 lead at the break.

The third quarter proved to be the end of the Panthers chances as the Indians came out of the break in impressive fashion.  The defensive intensity picked back up and the Indians got hot from behind the arc.  The Indians seemingly could not miss in the third period and thanks to 4 three pointers and a 22 point quarter the Indians went into the fourth period leading 52-31.  The fourth period the Indians continued to play the same pressure defense and still made plenty of shots to end the game and the season with a great 64-36 victory.

With the barrage of scoring in this game we still managed to have three players score in double figures.  As a team we hit 9 three pointers which helped with our highest point total of the season at 64.  We were led by Ethan Thompson with 20 points followed by Tanner Beatty with 12 and Graham Moser with 11.

We finished our season with a 13-1 record and averaged 46.6 points per game.  Defensively we only gave up over 40 points one time all season, which is very impressive for a basketball team.  We also had everyone on our team score at least one basket throughout the course of the season, which really shows how deep of a team we were all year long.  This is an exciting group of boys to watch play and I look forward to seeing them excel at the high school level next year.  I want to thank everyone for their support all year long!

Thanks for the support and Go Indians!
