Wrestling update from Versailles meet
December 13, 2013Hallsville High School
from Coach David Nugent
The wrestling team was in action last night at Versailles. We have four guys out right now with injury/illness so we were a little short handed.
In our first dual against Missouri Military Academy, we came out on top 48-24. Before the match, the coaches challenged the kids to go out looking for pins in ever match and the kids stepped up to the challenge. Hunter Tessman started the dual with a pin at 152, followed by Jacob Willhoite at 160. Both Billie McKinley and Andrew Brown notched their first varsity wins with pins.

Our second dual against Versailles was pretty rough with a 72-4 score. Versailles is a physical team that gets after you from the whistle. We did not match their physicality. Hunter Tessman picked up our lone win with an 8-0 major decision. He continued to wrestled to the whistle to secure a takedown with a few seconds left to secure the major.
We dropped our third dual to Blair Oaks 69-12. Despite the score, we wrestled better than we did against Versailles. Hunter Tessman was in a tightly contested match with a pretty good senior, before he got caught in the third period. Hunter put the kid to his back and was the aggressor the entire match. Hunter wrestled really well all night. Jacob Willhoite dropped an 11-6 decsions at 160. He got in on a lot of good shots, but just couldn't finish. Jacob Huisman was also in a good match, before fatigue kicked in a little.
We will be back in action tomorrow at the Mexico Tournament.
