8th grade wins at Macon, 7th grade falls 14-12
September 25, 2013Hallsville High School
The MS Football Team traveled to Macon last night and played 2 hard fought games. Although we only walked away with one win, I was very proud of both teams effort by competing to the very end. In both games we had a goal line stands in the 4th quarters, with one resulting in a 99 yard interception for a touchdown with 1:30 left in the game.
In the 8th grade contest we came out victorious with a 12-8 victory, over Macon on a 1st and goal with less than a minute left to seal the victory. We started scoring in the 2nd quarter with a 60 yard touchdown pass from Tanner Beatty to Brenton Morris. On the 2 pt. conversion Beatty’s pass was too high, but Cole Wiley gave a great effort to grab the ball. We ended the second quarter on a 50 yard touchdown run by Graham Moser, again 2 pt. conversion failed. Half time score, Hallsville 12- Macon 0. Macon scored in the 3rd quarter. The players made a great goal line stand at the end of the game. Way to go Indians.
In the second contest, the 7th grade lost a close game 14-12. Again, very happy with the effort and how the boys stayed in the game and tried to find a way to win. Macon jumped out front 8-0 in the 1st quarter. After that score we responded in 2 plays to close the gap 8-6. Jarrett Ballard took a hand off and ran 40 yards to set up our first score. On the very next play Zane Parnell hit BJ Fisher on a short pass and BJ broke a tackle to run 20 yards for the touchdown. 2 Pt. conversion failed (we will be working on 2 pt conversions this week). Macon scored again but we held them on the 2 pt. conversions try after to keep the game in reach. With the score 14-6, Macon was driving for another score with less than a minute, when their quarterback threw a pass that BJ intercepted at the 1 yard line and ran it back for a touchdown. With only a successful 2 pt. conversion to tie the game Parnell’s pass was intercepted. So with 1:20 left and a failed onside kick and no time outs left, things were not looking so good. But again the boys never gave up and when there quarterback ran around the right end, Jarrett Ballard ran him down and caused a fumble which we recovered. We tried a Hail Mary pass, but Parnell’s pass went up in the air, Fisher and Macon’s safety went up and Macon came down with it. Tough loss but we are very proud of these boys. Way to go Indians.
This might be a little longer then most recaps, but I wanted to make sure everyone that was not there understand the intensity and excitement these boys brought to the game last night. I see great things for the rest of the season. Please come out and support your INDIANS.
Thanks for everyone that made the journey to Macon.
