Julie Gross Signs Letter of Intent

February 15, 2013
Hallsville High School

Hallsville High School senior, Julie Gross, has signed a letter of intent to play for the Lady Greyhounds softball team at Fort Scott Community College (FSCC) in Fort Scott, Kansas.  FSCC is a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) and competes within the national acclaimed Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC). This conference is made up of the 19 Kansas Junior Colleges.

In the last five years, the Lady Greyhounds have produced two NJCAA All-Americans, eight NJCAA Academic All-Americans, and two NJCAA Superior Academic Achievement winners.

Founded in 1919, FSCC is the oldest continuously operated community college in Kansas. FSCC boasts a student to faculty ration of 25 to 1 and offers Associate degrees in general studies, arts, science, and applied science.

FSCC head softball coach, Kristin Schalk says,  "I am very excited to have Julie as a member of the Lady Hounds softball team this fall. She has an incredible drive to play softball at the college level and has a great attitude to go along with it. Her explosive bat and natural softball sense will be a great asset to our program!"

While at Hallsville, Julie has been a four time letter winner, three time Academic All-State, two time All-Conference player, and was voted as captain and best defensive player her senior year.  Softball head coach Chris Pemberton said Julie was a very versatile player, adding, "her defensive skills will allow her to compete at Fort Scott immediately. She is a tough minded player with a good offensive skill set. Her leadership and softball skills will be missed next season at Hallsville, but I wish her all the luck at Fort Scott."

After receiving her associate's degree, Julie plans to study elementary education.

Julie is the daughter of Steven and Fonda Gross.
