MS Football split with Macon

September 7, 2012
Hallsville High School

from Coach Josh Lancaster

Last night we kicked our season off by hosting the Macon Tigers.

8th Grade - We came out on the losing end of a 22-0 game. We got off to a very slow start, especially on offense struggling to move the football. Macon countered with a couple big scoring plays getting us down early. The 8th grade really rallied in the 2nd half putting together strong defense with a couple of longer offensive drives. Unfortunately we couldn't put the ball in the end zone, but we were very encouraged by the 2nd half. We played with much more aggressiveness and intensity in the 2nd half and we're looking forward to unleashing more of it on Tuesday. Another bright note from the game was the fact that we forced and recovered 4 fumbles in the game.

7th Grade - In a game shortened by lighting, we came away with a 16-0 victory. In the first half, our scoring started with a long pass play from Tanner Beatty to Graham Moser. That play didn't score, but did set up about a 30 yard touchdown run for Dequinten Smith on the very next play. The score at half was 8-0 Indians. In the 3rd quarter we added to our lead with about a 65 yard touchdown pass from Tanner Beatty to Graham Moser increasing our lead to 16-0. After our 2nd score of the night, the game was called due to lightning mid-way through the 3rd quarter. Our defense played tough all night as we did not allow Macon to get anywhere near the end zone, even forcing them to struggle gaining 1st downs.

?

Thanks to everyone that came out to support us in our debut last night! We take the field this Tuesday in Ashland against the Southern Boone Eagles. 8th grade kicks off at 5:30 with the 7th grade game to follow.
