Varsity HALLSVILLE.........2 MACON...............1
Jr. Varsity HALLSVILLE......4 MACON...........5
Tues. Apr. 17, Hallsville travelled northward to Macon for an intra-district matchup and edged out the Tigers by a 2-1 score. All the runs in the game came in the 3rd frame. visiting Hallsville got on the board first with a double-steal and timely rbi-single. With one out, Sam German banged a double to left and scampered to third on a wild pitch, then Nathen Goett drew a base-on-balls. Conner Cotton, pinch-running for Goett, stole 2nd while German raced home for the first score. Then with two outs, Jesse Fudge ripped a base-hit through the left side of the infield plating Cotton.
The Tigers, facing first-time-starting pitcher, Luke Hartman, opened the bottom of the inning with a slow-roller, infield single. a successful sacrifice bunt was followed by a double from Macon's pitcher, K. Johnson driving in Macon's lone score. The inning ended on a spectacular defensive play when the next Tiger hitter singled to right but Hallsville's Dalton Lindsay charged and fired a strike to catcher, Goett, to nail the possible tying run at the plate. H allsville recorded other defensive gems like Brendan Beatty's over-the-shoulder catch in the 2nd, German's hard-charging double play in the 4th, and Fudge's game-saving catch in deep left in the 5th that turned into an inning-ending double play nabbing a baserunner that had not tagged up at 2nd.
Hallsville's pitching was supreme with Hartman collecting the mound victory over his efficient five innings followed by Lindsay's solid 6th inning and then the perfect 1-2-3 7th inning by CJ Ashburn for his first varsity save. Indian pitchers allowed NO WALKS!! while striking out three and scattering nine Macon hits. It took only 72 hallsville staff pitches over the seven innings; that is extemely efficient! Hartman-57, Lindsay-7, Asburn-8.....WOW!!
The JV iIdians made a fierce comeback attempt but came up short after falling behind 5-0 early. Hallsville rallied for four scores in the 4th and then had the tying and go-ahead runs at 2nd and 3rd bases in the 5th before being stopped by the Tigers. 4th inning rbi were delived by Ashburn (2-run double), Lucas Stewart (an rbi double), and Jay Love (infield ground out.)
