Centralia and Moberly Tournament results

April 18, 2012
Hallsville High School

from Coach Josh Lancaster

On a windy Monday, we traveled to compete in the Centralia Golf Invitational at Centralia Country Club. We had our best tournament outing as a team that we've had in my 3 years as coach shooting a team score of 372. This shattered our previous tournament low of 403. Our score was good enough to place us 5th out of 9 teams, so definitely our best showing in a tournament. It was windy and chilly throughout the morning, and continued to stay windy as it warmed up, so in playing in tougher conditions the boys really played well.

Individually, we were led by Matt Thunhorst and Stephen Dupre who both carded matching scores of 89 setting new personal low tournament rounds. This is the first time we've had a golfer break 90 in a tournament, so for both to do it was great! Their scores were good enough to tie them for 16th place. Ben Dupre also set a new personal tournament low round of 94, good enough for 22nd place. Our scoring was rounded out by William Pieper scoring a 100 for 26th place. Zach Bequette also shot a solid 106 for us which was good for 33rd place.

Yesterday, we traveled to Heritage Hills Golf Course to compete in the Moberly Invitational Tournament. There were 17 teams competing yesterday broken into a large school and a small school division. Competing in the small school division, we had a rougher time then the day before. Our team score of 409 was good enough for 7th out of 9 small school division teams.

Individually, we were led by Matt Thunhorst who followed up his 89 with a new personal low best tournament round of 87. This placed Matt 15th in the small school division so a very good showing for Matt and continued what has been a very strong senior season for him. Following Matt in scoring were Ben Dupre shooting an even 100, Alec Atkinson shooting a 109, and William Pieper shooting a 113. KC Stoddard also traveled with us shooting a 117, a big improvement over his score of 133 that he shot at last year's Centralia Golf Invitational.

Overall, not the day we were looking for but it was upper 60s, sunny, with little wind so a beautiful day to play golf. Hard to beat that.

We compete again today in a match against the Harrisburg Bulldogs at A.L. Gustin Golf Course in Columbia and tomorrow at Eagle Knoll Golf Course against the Southern Boone Eagles.
