Golf updates North Callaway and Fayette

April 12, 2012
Hallsville High School

from Coach Josh Lancaster

Last Thursday (Apr 6) afternoon on an overcast, chilly day we took on the North Callaway Thunderbirds at Lake of the Woods GC.    I think our golf clubs reflected the weather as we struggled on the day against a very good North Callaway team. We went down in defeat shooting a 195 to North Callaway's 165. This score was a little better than the day before at Kirksville so rebounded a little bit from those Wednesday struggles.

A bright spot on the day for the varsity was Matt Thunhorst tying his career low round of 41, which earned him co-runner up honors on the day. Stephen Dupre was our other low scorer shooting a 48.

The junior varsity rebounded a little more shooting a 235 led by Zach Bequette's 53 and KC Stoddard's 59. North Callaway did not have enough golfers to qualify for a JV score.

Yesterday (Apr.9)on a beautiful day to play golf we continued to rebound a little bit more from our shooting slump defeating the Fayette Falcons with our score of 192 to their 210 at Lake of the Woods.

Individually, we took both medalist and runner-up honors with Matt Thunhorst taking medalist with a 45 and Stephen Dupre as runner-up with a 46.

The junior varsity had a rough outing shooting a 246, their 2nd worst team score of the season. Fayette did not have enough JV golfers to qualify a score. Junior varsity scorers were led by Zach Bequette's 59 and KC Stoddard's 60.

A bright spot on the JV was the play of Jared Bradshaw. Jared had never really played golf before this season, but yesterday was able to shoot a new personal low round of 64.

It's a week full of competition as we compete again today against the Centralia Panthers at the Centralia Country Club, tomorrow the varsity golfers will be gone all day competing at the Southern Boone Classic golf tournament at Eagle Knoll Golf Course, and Thursday we travel to Booneville for a return match against the Fayette Falcons at Hail Ridge Golf Course.
