Indian golfers split triangular meet at Westran
April 3, 2012Hallsville High School
from Coach Josh Lancaster
After a week for spring break, the Indians resumed their 2012 golf season at Heritage Hills Golf Course in Moberly, MO against the Marceline Tigers and host Westran Hornets.
I was concerned with the week off that it would kill the momentum we were building prior to spring break, but the varsity Indians picked right up where they left off splitting the triangular match. We picked up our first match loss of the season falling to Marceline. We shot a team score of 182 to their 173. Marceline has a very good golf program and are another team that consistently is contending for team district championships and consistently sends golfers to the state tournament. The 182 we shot is our 2nd lowest team score of the season, only 1 off of the 181 we shot against Salisbury right before spring break. We also picked up a win yesterday defeating the Westran Hornets, who shot a 218.
Individually, the Indians were led by match runner-up Matt Thunhorst who shot a new personal low match score of 41. Stephen Dupre and William Pieper also provided strong outings shooting 44 and 46 respectively. The varsity scoring was rounded out by Ben Dupre's 51. Alec Atkinson shot a 52 as the 5th varsity golfer.
The JV Indians had a rougher outing and for several spring break seemed to come at a bad time for them. The JV Indians lost for the first time this season falling to Marceline. Our 251 was no match for their 190, as we shot our highest team score of the season. A couple bright spots on the day for the JV were KC Stoddard, who shot a new personal low match score of 54, and Zach Bequette who brought home a 55.
We are in action again on Wednesday afternoon, traveling to Kirksville Country Club to take on the Kirksville Tigers.
