FIRST MATCH- FIRST WIN !!

March 20, 2012
Hallsville High School

From Coach Josh Lancaster

Yesterday the Indians opened the 2012 season by taking on the Fr. Tolton Trailblazers.

Mother nature looked like she was not going to cooperate as it started pouring when we got to the course. After about 10 minutes it stopped raining so we decided to take a chance and see how many holes of golf we could get in, but there was no worry as it turned out to be a beautiful afternoon.

We had a very good opening afternoon with both the Varsity and JV boys brought home victories yesterday with the varsity winning by a score of 190 to 212 and the JV winning 232 to 281.

At the varsity level, we were led by medalist Matt Thunhorst who shot a 42, setting a new personal low. Matt was followed by runner-up Stephen Dupre shooting a 45 and William Pieper shooting a new personal low of 46. The varsity scoring was rounded out by Ben Dupre & Zach Bequette shooting 57s.

The JV was led by Trevor Drummond shooting a low round of 52, a very good start for one of our freshman. Taylor Bobinger shot a 57, Alec Atkinson a 59, K.C. Stoddard a 64, & Jared Bradshaw a 74. As only 5 can compete at each level, Michael Culwell sat out this match but still recorded a score of 61 setting a new personal low round for himself.

Tolton is the new Catholic school in Columbia and fielded an all-freshman team so for their entire team this was their first competitive golf experience and they can be a team that becomes very good over the next few years if their kids stick with it and gain more experience and confidence.

Overall, the boys had a great first day out and we're hoping to continue that today as we go to Tanglewood GC in Fulton to take on South Callaway and Fayette.
