Special Olympics basketball at Sedalia

February 14, 2012
Hallsville High School

from Coach John Williams

Several of our Special Olympians traveled to Sedalia on Saturday to compete in the District 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament. The team consisted of Charlie Thompson, Daniel Nelson, Renick Gallup, Austin Sobba, along with Brett Williams playing as a Unified member.

The team faced their toughest competition yet in a team from Brookfield. Their team moved the ball extremely well and didn't miss many shots. We fell 20-8 in the first game. In the second game things were much closer for most of the game. Charlie Thompson came out with a hot hand scoring our first 6 points and pumping his team up. Austin Sobba played great defense and Daniel Nelson found an open bucket in the paint on several occasions. But the Brookfield team didn't give up and ended up winning by a score of 20-14.

While we would have loved earning gold, our team knew they had worked hard and were proud of their silver medals. Please congratulate them when you see them on a job well done.
