Varsity Boys Basketball win at Beacon Classic in Lynchburg
December 19, 2009By Sandra Lowery of Halifax County High School
Dabbs finished the night with 28 points as the Comets rolled to an easy 62-41 win over the Hilltoppers in the final game of the Beacon Classic in Lynchburg.
Dabbs scored nine points in the final 1:57 of the first half as the Comets pulled away to a 34-14 lead at halftime, with Dabbs having scored 24 of the team's points.
Two free throws by Mayo and a dunk by Dabbs put the Comets up by 25 points at 39-14 with 5:25 left in the third quarter. That was pretty much the swan song for the bulk of the Comets' starters as Ramage began shuffling reserves in and out of the lineup.
The Comets led 44-24 at the end of the third quarter. E.C. Glass cut the Comets' lead to less than 20 points only one time in the final eight minutes of the game, that coming at the outset of the fourth quarter. Rob Jackson and Marcus Williams wasted little time in punching the lead back over the 20-point mark and the Comets waltzed their way through the final six and a half minutes without a hitch.
