Griffin Grasshoppers Attends LeBron James Shooting Stars Classic 2014

The Griffin Grasshoppers 17U team took a 9-0 record to Akron, Ohio April 25-27, 2014 to compete in the LeBron James Shooting Stars Classic during the Spring NCAA Live period. The Grasshoppers won two tournaments prior to going to Ohio to remain undefeated for the season. The Grasshoppers were champions at the South Carolina Kings Jump-Off Classic in Columbia, SC and also at the Atlanta Georgia AAU Super Regional. It seemed as no team would give them any competition as they were defeating each of their opponents by 10-20 points per game.

However, things quickly changed once the Grasshoppers played their first game in Akron, Ohio. After a long eleven hours road trip, the Grasshoppers were flat and did not perform well and lost by twenty points to the New York Gauchos. They lost their second game the next day to Fundamental U which knocked them out of competing in the Gold or Silver Division. Instead, the Grasshoppers could only qualify for the Bronze Division or less. Suddenly, they became alive and rattled off three straight victories and advanced to the Final-Four in the Bronze Division.

The Grasshoppers competed well in the final-four game but fell short in the end to finish 3rd and brought home a 12-2 record overall.
